Microsoft is expanding its AI integration across various services, including offering authors payment to train AI on their books and transforming government services in Abu Dhabi with AI. Microsoft is taking a new approach to using copyrighted books for AI training by offering payment to HarperCollins authors. The company has proposed a licensing agreement with publisher HarperCollins that would pay $5,000 per book for AI training rights, authors would receive half of that amount, or $2,500 per book, according to the publisher.
Microsoft is working to transform government services in Abu Dhabi with AI. The AI-powered TAMM app puts about 950 Abu Dhabi government services at the fingertips of 2.5 million citizens, residents and businesses, who made more than 10 million transactions in the past year, ranging from paying traffic fines to getting a marriage license. With TAMM’s AI assistant, finding answers to even the most complex government processes has become effortless.

Microsoft is pushing forward on multiple fronts in the realm of Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Technology, with recent advancements impacting both user experience and business ROI. One significant development focuses on enhancing video quality within Microsoft Teams through the introduction of Super Resolution (SR), now available in public preview and slated for general availability in March. This feature, initially for Snapdragon X-based Copilot+ PCs, leverages AI to restore video resolution during Teams calls, particularly when network bandwidth is limited and lower-resolution videos are transmitted.
This AI-driven approach significantly improves visual clarity compared to traditional upscaling methods, with user assessments indicating an average increase of +0.6 CMOS in quality. Furthermore, Microsoft is making strides in deploying Large Language Models (LLMs) on edge devices like smartphones and laptops through advances in low-bit quantization. These innovations, including techniques like T-MAC, Ladder, and LUT Tensor Core, improve computational efficiency and hardware compatibility, enabling more efficient operation of LLMs on resource-constrained devices. Microsoft also highlights how real-world businesses are transforming using AI, showcasing 50 new customer stories.

GitHub Copilot Workspace is now generally available, with no waitlist required, marking a significant step in AI-powered coding. This tool enables developers to define coding tasks in natural language and collaborate with AI agents to complete them. The platform integrates seamlessly with GitHub and allows users to initiate tasks from GitHub issues, dashboards, or repository pages. This aims to enhance workflow efficiency and developer productivity by allowing them to describe their requirements and receive suggestions for plans of action, as well as execute build, test and run commands within the workspace.
The Copilot Workspace also introduces the ability to code in native languages, including Kannada. This feature was showcased at the Microsoft AI Tour in Bengaluru, where the GitHub director of international developer relations, Karan MV, demonstrated Copilot's capabilities to understand Indian languages. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella highlighted the importance of making coding accessible to everyone, regardless of their native language. This move supports inclusion and accessibility, particularly for areas such as India, where there is a large developer base. Thomas Dohmke, GitHub chief, emphasized that this development will change software development in local languages, enabling every developer to "conduct a symphony of AI agents in natural language."
