Snowflake is enhancing its data analysis capabilities with the introduction of AISQL, a new feature within its Cortex AI platform. AISQL leverages generative AI to power SQL functions, enabling data analysts to directly analyze unstructured data using SQL without the need for specialized expertise or involvement from data engineers. This functionality is designed to simplify tasks such as sentiment analysis and image classification.
AISQL is part of Snowflake’s Cortex AI, which already offers serverless functions that can be called from SQL or Python. It aims to improve query performance, reduce reliance on data engineers and data scientists, and cut costs. By incorporating large language models (LLMs) from Anthropic, Meta, Mistral, and OpenAI, AISQL generates SQL functions that analyze unstructured data more efficiently. The launch of AISQL is part of Snowflake's broader strategy to make AI application development more accessible. Recent enhancements to Cortex, including Cortex Agents and a conversational interface, demonstrate Snowflake's commitment to providing users with tools to build and deploy AI applications using their own data. Additionally, Snowflake has partnered with Stack Overflow, making their data available on the Snowflake Marketplace to enrich AI applications with trusted, high-quality information. References :

Sourcetable has launched its AI-powered spreadsheet, securing $4.3 million in funding. This new platform aims to revolutionize data analysis, allowing users to interact with and analyze data using natural language, eliminating the need for complex formulas. The funding round was led by Bee Partners, with participation from figures such as Hugging Face CTO Julien Chaumond and GitHub co-founder Tom Preston-Werner. The company aims to make data analysis more accessible, and empower more people to become spreadsheet power users.
The "self-driving spreadsheet" can understand data context without the need for users to pre-select ranges, interpreting multiple ranges across different tabs. Users can issue commands via text or voice, creating financial models, generating pivot tables, cleaning data, and creating charts and graphs. Sourcetable CEO Eoin McMillan says that AI is the biggest platform shift since the browser. References :
