OpenAI has announced the integration of GPT-4.1 and GPT-4.1 mini models into ChatGPT, aimed at enhancing coding and web development capabilities. The GPT-4.1 model, designed as a specialized model excelling at coding tasks and instruction following, is now available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team users. According to OpenAI, GPT-4.1 is faster and a great alternative to OpenAI o3 & o4-mini for everyday coding needs, providing more help to developers creating applications.
OpenAI is also rolling out GPT-4.1 mini, which will be available to all ChatGPT users, including those on the free tier, replacing the previous GPT-4o mini model. This model serves as the fallback option once GPT-4o usage limits are reached. The release notes confirm that GPT 4.1 mini offers various improvements over GPT-4o mini, including instruction-following, coding, and overall intelligence. This initiative is part of OpenAI's effort to make advanced AI tools more accessible and useful for a broader audience, particularly those engaged in programming and web development. Johannes Heidecke, Head of Systems at OpenAI, has emphasized that the new models build upon the safety measures established for GPT-4o, ensuring parity in safety performance. According to Heidecke, no new safety risks have been introduced, as GPT-4.1 doesn’t introduce new modalities or ways of interacting with the AI, and that it doesn’t surpass o3 in intelligence. The rollout marks another step in OpenAI's increasingly rapid model release cadence, significantly expanding access to specialized capabilities in web development and coding. References :

Turing, a coding provider for OpenAI and other LLM producers, has secured $111 million in Series E funding, boosting its valuation to $2.2 billion. This latest round, led by Malaysia's Khazanah Nasional Berhad, brings the company's total funding to $225 million. Turing, originally an HR tech startup focused on vetting and hiring remote coders, has become a key partner to AI companies.
This funding will be used to expand Turing's business, attracting more customers and exploring new use cases, CEO Jonathan Siddharth said. With approximately $300 million in annualized revenue run rate, the company has also been profitable for around a year. Turing currently engages with around 4 million coders globally, with a much smaller number of direct employees. References :

Google has launched a free tier of its AI-powered coding assistant, Gemini Code Assist, for individual developers. This new tier provides access to AI-driven coding assistance, including code suggestions, debugging support, and error explanations. It supports 22 programming languages and offers up to 180,000 code completions per month, significantly exceeding the free tier of GitHub Copilot, which only provides 2,000 completions per month. The tool integrates seamlessly with popular IDEs like Visual Studio Code and JetBrains IDEs.
Google's Gemini Code Assist is built on the Gemini 2.0 model, fine-tuned for programming tasks by analyzing real-world coding use cases. According to Google, the quality of AI-generated recommendations is now "better than ever." In addition to the free tier, Google has also introduced Gemini Code Assist for GitHub, which automates parts of the code review workflow by summarizing pull requests. This free offering positions Gemini as a direct competitor to GitHub Copilot, expanding access to AI-assisted coding for hobbyists and startup developers. References :
