Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is betting big on the future of Agentic AI, predicting a disruptive shift that could reshape the entire software landscape. Nadella envisions an "Agentic AI era" where traditional Software as a Service (SaaS) applications are rendered obsolete. In a recent discussion, Nadella questioned the necessity of conventional software like Excel, suggesting that Agentic AIs will replace business logic, fundamentally altering how organizations operate. Microsoft's CEO believes AI agents will take over tasks, interacting across multiple repositories, and ultimately collapsing the need for individual business applications.
Nadella's commitment to open architectures is evident through Microsoft's endorsement of Google DeepMind's Agent2Agent (A2A) open protocol and Anthropic's Model Context Protocol (MCP). This move signifies a shift from proprietary ecosystems towards cross-platform, agentic AI collaboration. By supporting these open protocols in Copilot Studio and Foundry, Microsoft aims to enable customers to build agentic systems that can seamlessly interoperate. This initiative is expected to accelerate the development and adoption of agentic-based apps and platforms, fostering innovation and interdependence within the AI community. Beyond software, Microsoft is exploring AI's potential to revolutionize energy production. The company believes that AI can accelerate the development of nuclear fusion as a practical energy source. Microsoft Research held its inaugural Fusion Summit to find ways to utilize AI to push the boundaries of nuclear fusion. Realizing the enormous energy needs of AI, the fusion research is intended to both bring clean energy to the world but also ensure the capacity to continue to expand AI capabilities. This would hasten our understanding of how to power AI, addressing the sustainability challenges associated with its growing energy consumption. References :

Google is significantly expanding the reach and capabilities of its Gemini AI, with potential integration into Apple Intelligence on the horizon. Google CEO Sundar Pichai expressed optimism about reaching an agreement with Apple to make Gemini an option within Apple's AI framework by mid-year. This move could position Google's AI technology in front of a vast number of iPhone users. Furthermore, Google is broadening access to Gemini’s AI mode, previously available through a waitlist in Google Labs, to all US users over 18. This expansion includes new features like visual cards for places and products, enhanced shopping integration, and a history panel to support ongoing research projects.
In addition to these developments, Google is enhancing NotebookLM, its AI-powered research assistant. NotebookLM’s "Audio Overviews" feature is now available in approximately 75 languages, including less commonly spoken ones like Icelandic and Latin, using a Gemini-based audio production. Mobile apps for NotebookLM are set to launch on May 20th for both iOS and Android, making the tool accessible on smartphones and tablets. The mobile app will allow users to create and join audio discussions about saved sources. The Gemini app itself is receiving significant updates, including native AI image editing tools that allow users to modify both AI-generated and uploaded images. These tools support over 45 languages and are rolling out gradually to most countries. Users can change backgrounds, replace objects, and add elements directly within the chat interface. In a move toward responsible AI usage, Gemini will add an invisible SynthID digital watermark to images created or edited using its tools, with experiments underway for visible watermarks as well. Google is also working on a version of Gemini for children under 13, complete with parental controls and safety features powered by Family Link. This Gemini version aims to assist children with homework and creative writing while ensuring a safe and monitored AI experience. References :
