Samsung's Ballie robot, a sphere-shaped home companion, is finally set to launch in the U.S. this summer, years after initial teases and revisions. The rolling bot, first introduced as a concept in 2020, has undergone numerous upgrades and is now equipped with advanced capabilities. This summer marks its official arrival to consumers after public showings at CES 2024 and 2025, promising to deliver on its initial vision of an AI-capable home assistant.

Ballie's functionality is greatly enhanced by its integration with Google Gemini, bringing generative AI to the robot's edge capabilities. This partnership allows Ballie to engage in natural conversational interactions with users, enabling it to manage home environments by adjusting lighting, greeting people at the door, personalizing schedules, and setting reminders. Ballie will also be able to offer health and style recommendations, as well as managing other smart devices in your home.

Despite the excitement surrounding Ballie's release, some question whether the addition of Google Gemini truly enhances the robot's core functionalities. Critics suggest that many of the promised features, such as adjusting smart home devices or projecting videos, could already be achieved by Ballie without Gemini. Concerns have also been raised about pricing, with Samsung yet to release a number ahead of it's impending release.
