Meta is making significant strides in both the military and artificial intelligence sectors. The company has partnered with Anduril, a defense-focused firm, to develop integrated extended reality (XR) products for warfighters on the battlefield. This collaboration aims to bring Meta's AI and augmented reality technologies to Anduril's Lattice AI platform, providing real-time battlefield intelligence and marking Meta's expansion into U.S. government technology sectors. Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO of Meta, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating that it will help bring these technologies to American servicemembers.
Meta is also reportedly forming a new superintelligence lab amid delays with its Llama 4 Behemoth large language model. The lab will focus on developing artificial intelligence models that can outperform humans at many tasks. As part of this initiative, Meta is investing $14.8 billion in Scale AI for a 49% stake, implying a valuation of about $30 billion for the AI training data company. Alexandr Wang, the co-founder and chief executive of Scale AI, is expected to join the lab, along with several other employees from the startup.
The recruitment drive for the superintelligence lab reportedly began after Meta encountered challenges with its in-house AI development efforts, leading to a delay in the release of Llama 4 Behemoth due to concerns about its output quality. Meta has also extended offers to researchers at OpenAI, Google, and other market players. These moves, including the Scale AI investment and the formation of the new lab, highlight Meta's commitment to advancing AI capabilities.
