Microsoft is pushing further into the AI realm with new advancements to Copilot Studio and open-source contributions. The company has launched "Computer Use" for Copilot Studio as an early research preview, as reported by The Decoder. This new feature empowers AI agents to interact directly with graphical user interfaces, extending their capabilities to control both websites and desktop applications, unlike similar offerings that primarily focus on web-based interactions. This technology leverages OpenAI's CUA, which also powers Operator, but runs entirely on Microsoft's infrastructure, ensuring company data remains within the Microsoft Cloud and isn't used for model training.

Microsoft envisions a range of applications for "Computer Use" in Copilot Studio, including automated data entry, market research, and invoice processing. The company is positioning this technology as the next step in robotic process automation (RPA), offering businesses a more intelligent and versatile way to automate tasks that previously required manual intervention. This allows AI agents to perform actions within existing software applications, streamlining workflows and improving efficiency.

In addition to Copilot Studio enhancements, OpenAI has released Codex CLI, an open-source local coding agent, covered by Marktechpost. Codex CLI enables developers to translate natural language commands into executable code, streamlining development workflows. By integrating natural language processing into the command-line interface, Codex CLI aims to reduce the cognitive load associated with traditional command-line operations. Furthermore, Microsoft celebrated its 50th anniversary with Satya Nadella sharing remarks, thanking Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer and Paul Allen for their vision.
