Global spending on generative AI is predicted to surge to $644 billion in 2025, according to a new report from analyst firm Gartner. This figure represents a substantial 76.4% year-over-year increase compared to 2024. The report, which highlights the escalating adoption and investment in generative AI, provides insights into where enterprises are allocating their resources and where they might gain the most value. Hardware is expected to dominate spending, claiming a staggering 80% of all generative AI expenditure in 2025, driven primarily by manufacturers producing AI-enabled devices.

The forecast indicates that devices will account for $398.3 billion, servers will reach $180.6 billion, software spending will follow at $37.2 billion, and services will total $27.8 billion. This breakdown underscores the significance of hardware in the generative AI landscape. Gartner's analysis suggests that hardware's dominance will intensify over time, as generative AI becomes embedded functionality within software, shifting attributable spending towards hardware.
