Runway AI Inc. has launched Gen-4, its most advanced AI video generation model. This new system introduces a key advancement: character and scene consistency across multiple shots. This capability has been a major challenge for AI video generators until now, as previous models treated each frame as a separate creative task. Gen-4 aims to create a persistent memory of visual elements, ensuring that once a character or object is established, it remains consistent from different angles and in various environments.

Gen-4 is now available to all paid subscribers and enterprise customers, allowing users to generate five- and ten-second clips at 720p resolution. Runway showcased the model's capabilities through several demo films, including one where animals are consistently placed in different New York scenes. The New York-based startup is backed by Google, Nvidia and Salesforce. RunwayML has established itself as a major player in AI video technology and is the strongest Western competitor to OpenAI's Sora.
